Fate & Folklore

On view through November 14

History is written by the victors, but truth is kept in the fables and whispered in the dark. Fate & Folklore invites you to step inside a curated ritual of the subconscious. An altar to the myths, sigils, and legends that haunt our collective memory. We have gathered works that explore the magic in the margins: shadow-work, occult aesthetics, and the wyrd beauty of the natural world. Come wander the deep woods of the mind, where the monsters are kin and the magic is real.

The exhibition features works that feel unearthed from a forest floor or pulled straight from a practitioner's grimoire. This is art that leans into shadow-work, folk magic, and Southern Gothic themes. Works that explore the ritualistic, the uncanny, and the act of calling the ancestors. We invited artists to delve into the bloodlines, ghosts, and legacies that shape our internal landscapes through tactile, transformative mediums like encaustic wax, fiber, charred paper, and intricate bone-work, alongside mixed-media shrines and talismanic assemblages. The circle is open.

Artists across all identities, mediums, and experience levels are included in this exhibition. We especially welcomed work from LGBTQIA+ artists, BIPOC artists, witchy practitioners, neurodivergent artists, kinky creatives, and anyone who finds power in the in-between spaces.
Fate & Folklore is a collaboration between Zeitgeist Gallery & Bar and the downtown Durham shop Fate & Folklore.
